Our Immigration and Refugees Task Force responds to the attorney general’s recent statement to reverse DACA, the Obama-era executive order protecting 800,000 undocumented immigrant youth who were brought to the United States as children:

We are troubled by the attorney general’s recent statement to reverse DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals). This legislation allows these youth to perform everyday tasks that are required to live, such as acquiring work permits and attending school. DACA allows these young people to contribute to the land that they call home without fear of deportation.

It is with urgency that we ask you to take action on behalf of these young people (called DREAMers) to support them in any way you can. We have some suggestions on ways to act here:

• From the Religious Action Center: Urge your senators and representative to immediately pass a clean Dream Act of 2017(S.1615/H.R.3440). Congress must act now to protect DACA recipients from deportation or detention. The bipartisan Dream Act would grant DACA recipients permanent residence status and provide a pathway to citizenship for DREAMers who attend college, work in the United States, or serve in the military.
