Stephen Wise Free Synagogue celebrates 20 years of Rabbi Ammiel Hirsch’s leadership.
Since his arrival in 2004, Ammi has revitalized our historic congregation and articulated a clear vision for the future of American Judaism.
A fiery speaker and a brilliant scholar, Ammi is also a compassionate friend and a generous teacher.
Not since Rabbi Stephen S. Wise has there been an American Jewish leader as committed to Jewish peoplehood and the land of Israel.
Ammi’s message has echoed far beyond the synagogue’s walls, inspiring unconditional support for our homeland and guiding new generations with modern interpretations for ancient values and traditions.
We invite you to join us in honoring Ammi and supporting our community.

Ask Ammi Anything
You asked: What’s Rabbi Hirsch reading this week?
Rabbi Hirsch took some light reading with him for the trip to Israel with our synagogue. “Andrew Roberts’ 800-page biography of Napoleon,” he said.
“Napoleon: A Life” is the definitive biography of the great soldier-statesman by the acclaimed author of Churchill and The Last King of America — winner of the LA Times Book prize, finalist for the Plutarch prize, winner of the Fondation Napoleon prize and a New York Times bestseller.
