Jews in a Democratic Society: Choices at the Ballot Box 🙋
What does it mean to be a Jew in a democracy? What are the most important issues facing the Jewish community today? And how does this influence our choices at the ballot box? Join us as Rabbi Sam Natov moderates a panel discussion with Zioness Executive Director Amanda Berman and ADL NY/NJ Deputy Regional Director Alex Rosemberg. We’ll discuss these questions and more to help you make an informed decision when you cast your ballot in the upcoming midterm election.
Amanda Berman (she/her) is the Founder and Executive Director of the Zioness Movement, where she works to empower and activate Zionists on the progressive left to stand proudly in social justice spaces as Jews and Zionists. She is also a civil rights attorney who previously worked to fight antisemitism legally, spearheading such groundbreaking initiatives as the international action against Kuwait Airways for its discrimination against Israeli nationals, and the dual cases against San Francisco State University for its constitutional and civil rights violations against Jewish and Israeli students and community members.
Alexander Rosemberg and his team handle ADL’s operations work in New York and New Jersey. Primarily focused on incident response, government, law enforcement, campus affairs and communal relations as well as ADL’s work with Foreign Diplomatic Missions. He has been named by Governor of New Jersey to that State’s NJ-Israel Commission as well as the State’s Anti-BullyingTask Force. Mr. Rosemberg regularly participates in the NJ Interfaith Advisory Council and is often quoted in local and national media on issues related to hate crimes, extremism and the rights of minorities. Prior to joining ADL, he held a number of positions in both the public and private sectors. He previously served as CEO of Coporacion Regata, Counsel for legislative affairs to the Mayor of the Borough of Sucre in Caracas and EMC Corporation’s Legal Counsel for North Latin America. Formerly also served as Legal Counsel to the Venezuelan Judiciary Administration. Alexander was a Menachem Begin Fellow at Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He has also advised two Venezuelan Presidential campaigns on their Governing Platforms. He holds an LL.B. from Universidad Católica Andrés Bello and an LL.M. from Columbia University School of Law. Alex lives in Jersey City with his wife Vivian and son Rafael.
