“I am Adonai your God who brought you out from the land of the Egyptians to be their slaves no more.” But Judaism’s history with slavery is complicated: Abraham was a slave owner before we were enslaved in Egypt for generations. And some American rabbis supported slavery here while others vehemently opposed the practice.
