In this season of renewal, we take the opportunity to look inward and upward: to reflect on what has been a most challenging time, to count our blessings, and to think about our hopes for the new year.
During the month of Elul, August 28–September 25, leading up to Rosh Hashanah, we begin a period of introspection. The study of mussar — a traditional Jewish practice of mindfulness and self-improvement — is an excellent way to prepare for the High Holy Days. As part of our Jewish Values Project: Ethics for Elul, each day, our clergy and educators will contemplate a middah, or character trait.
