Out of a 160,000-strong Dutch-Jewish population, 102,000 died in concentration camps. Why did so many Dutch Jews perish, while there were disproportionately more survivors in other Western European countries? And how did that square with famous narratives of Dutch resistance and tolerance?

To answer those questions, journalist Nina Siegal mined the diaries of ordinary Dutch citizens — producing an exploration of the nature of resistance, the workings of memory, and the ways we reflect on, commemorate and re-envision the past. After reading “The Diary Keepers,” we hope you’ll join the author in conversation with our Rabbi Sam Natov on Zoom about the book and the process she went through to write it.

Zoom information will be provided upon registration.
