Join Stephen Wise Free Synagogue for a panel discussion with CUNY Hillel, faculty and students as they describe campus life in the aftermath of October 7, reflect on Governor Hochul’s commissioned Report on Antisemitism and Discrimination at CUNY, and present ideas for how we can support and strengthen Jewish life at the university.

This event is presented by Stephen Wise Free Synagogue’s Amplify Israel initiative, Israel Committee and Social Action Committee.

 

GUEST SPEAKER

llya Bratman has been the executive director of Hillel at Baruch College since November 2013. Born in Moscow, he immigrated to the U.S. in 1992. A U.S. armed forces veteran, Illya served honorably for over four active years and four reserve, including deployments to Korea, Germany and Iraq. He earned both a bachelor’s and a master’s in applied linguistics and education from the University of Pittsburgh in 2006. Since 2008, he has held various roles in the Jewish community such as instructor at Sinai Academy in Brooklyn, director of Jewish Programs at the Kings Bay Y, and project manager of Limmud FSU USA, before joining Hillel at Baruch.

 

MODERATED BYΒ 

A longtime member of Stephen Wise Free Synagogue, Jessica Levin has 30+ years of experience launching and leading education organizations and initiatives, developing federal K–12 education policy, serving as an instructor at Harvard’s Graduate School of Education, advising non-profit CEOs on strategy, and mobilizing communities around education goals. Jessica earned her bachelor’s from Harvard and her J.D. from Yale. After October 7th, as the volunteer vice president of education for the new Harvard Jewish Alumni Alliance, she researched and published a report on how Harvard’s educational program systemically planted and spread the seeds of hatred for Israel and Jews starting well before October 7. Most recently, she has been working with Dara Horn to launch a new initiative aimedΒ at educating non-Jewish students and the broader public about who Jews are, Jewish civilization, and the lies driving historical and contemporary antisemitism.
