Midrash Ve’Ma’Asseh, The SWFS Center For Community Learning

As a historic center of Reform Judaism, Stephen Wise Free Synagogue has developed a life-long learning and action-oriented approach to education, instilling a strong, positive Jewish identity, providing the tools required to lead active Jewish lives.

SWFS offers many programs, a variety of ongoing courses and discussion groups, exploratory series on issues in the US, in Israel and around the world, and special events, scheduled daytime and evenings.

Weekly Adult Programs include Torah study and Hebrew courses. Monthly programs include book and short story discussion, Torah commentary and other sacred text study. Rabbi Hirsch, Cantor Singer, and Rabbi Dena Klein teach classes on Jewish topics; special panel discussions and lectures are scheduled regularly.

Numbers and the Shaping of Memory in the Wilderness
Numbers has been called the most neglected book of the Torah. We will address that neglect by studying the fascinating challenges faced by the generation newly liberated from Egypt. We will discover the ways in which the memory of that long journey came to be preserved in the stories of loss and celebration told by its children.
