Summer Program

The ECC offers a 4 or 6 week summer camp for children aged 2.5-5. The classrooms and materials that are used during the school year are utilized by the camp program, and the classes are staffed by ECC teachers. The program is available for children enrolled in the school as well as neighborhood children who are interested in a fun, warm environment that fosters learning.

Each day that the weather is nice, children enjoy play time on the roof playground along with water play. They can also take advantage of the beautiful rooftop garden with its many flowers and vegetables growing right alongside the sandbox and climber. We also have a large indoor play space which is used during inclement weather.

We have many special classes that are conducted once a week. Once a week, the children take a closer look at what is growing in our rooftop garden with a gardening specialist. This gives children the opportunity to study how things grow and where food comes from. Once a week each group enjoys music class in their individual rooms. The children have an opportunity to sing and dance and occasionally try out some instruments. Each day the children have many opportunities to participate in various art activities and craft projects. They work on many of these in the classrooms, but they also may visit our light filled art studio. The children have movement class once a week with a specialist. The older children take part in many field trips throughout the summer. They may visit museums, the zoo, and parks. Each week, on Thursday or Friday the children celebrate Shabbat with candles, grape juice, and challah. They recite the blessings over each and learn Shabbat songs as well.

For children who attend the ECC year-round, the camp offers an opportunity for the children to build relationships with teachers and children who they will encounter during the upcoming school year. We also offer ECC Juniors for children who will be first attending the ECC in the fall. These children come for an hour and a half two or three times a week with a parent or caregiver and are placed in the classroom they will attend in the fall as well as meet at least one teacher who will be their regular teacher during the year. We've found this program helps ease the transition and makes separation go more smoothly in the fall.
